Mind-Body Skills Groups
Studies show that between 60 to 90% of all physician visits are due to stress-related complaints. We live in a fast-paced society where stress comes at us from a number of different directions including chronic illness, jobs, or family. We cannot eliminate stress, but we can take an active role in managing how we respond to it. Mind-body skills are scientifically-validated techniques that can teach you stress management techniques, improve personal coping skills, and enhance a person's capacity for relaxation, self-care and self-awareness. Techniques include meditation, guided imagery, mindful eating, biofeedback, autogenic training and the use of drawings, journals and movement to express thoughts and feelings.
Groups are intentionally small, usually 8-10 participants, to encourage a safe, supportive and intimate atmosphere where participants can focus on personal development. They are also educational and fun! Groups are usually 2-hours/week for 8-10 weeks and they are based on the model designed and taught internationally through Dr. James S. Gordon's Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, DC. Formation of groups is ongoing.
